Ordering of Lenses or Development works Built to Order.

When customers order lenses to be built to specific build specifications whether, conversions or modifications to existing platforms all works must be paid before any works commence on these special builds, The Lens Doctor will issue an invoice specifying details of the customers requirements and build platforms, whether to be Canon EF, Canon FD, or indeed any other manufacturers lenses to be modified in accordance with The Lens Doctors outlined modifications, these lenses are specially built to order and no works can be revoked after commencing works as scheduled in the invoice and communications containing details of the works done to each lens.  All orders whether by word of mouth, invoicing, or electronic communications between parties shall be deemed by The Lens Doctor, terms and conditions, as soon as payment is made and works commence no cancellations will be made or changed after 14 days as standard customer conditions.

All works are carried out and as such parts and or works contained within each lens carry “Confidential Information “as such are copyright under The Lens Doctor proprietary name and ownership of these parts cannot be copied, sold or to any other 3rd party user this would include our development and standards works/parts such as our Fluid Variable Aperture, (FVA) for example.

Lenses that are built to order will take longer than our standard lenses as specialist parts and movements are required to be precision engineered and manufactured to allow the correct movements, as such project management of the builds to fulfil all requirement of the Camera lens are required, either for stills photography or the modifications of stills lenses to convey the attributes of Cine Lenses. These particular modifications are to simulate cine lenses, but do not take the place of a dedicated cine lens, and as such replications of our lenses conduct similar movements to a cine lens at a greatly reduced cost.

The standards to which we work and modifications can be adjusted to the users own infinite use, such like the FVA movement can be Fast, Medium or Slow in some cases how we set up our lenses may require the customer to return to base the lenses which they may find not to their particular requirements, like the aperture turns to slow or to heavy, these adjustments are carried out at The Lens Doctors expense, and consider it part of the set up process involved in the purchase of a Built To Order lens, transportation back to our facilities will be at the customers expense, and we will conduct the required works Free of Charge and transportation back to the customer will be covered by the Lens Doctor.

We will not be held liable for any delays in making your built to order lenses as such any delays in providing lenses for any forthcoming works that the customer has, we will make sure in most cases all events and practicalities are covered but we will not be liable for any or such delays in manufacturing your built to order lenses.

If your order has been accepted and part payment has been made, when the lenses are ready for delivery and the payment cannot be made, we may have the overall decision to sell the lenses that you have place Build to Order, an administration fee will be added to the overall pricing for advertising and payments made for advertising placements on eBay or such like.

We have had in very few instances been asked to sell customers lenses once they have finished with the lens or lenses and we will do this on a commission basis to our standard Terms and Conditions, if such requirements are wanted

Development works / Repairs.

In some circumstances where the customer provides a lens with mount(s) of an unusual or varying mounting system that require changing or modification / machining (for example Konica KA mounts to Canon EOS) , or similar works in terms of making or adapting lenses that currently foul on full frame cameras, to allow to fit these Camera without hitting the mirror, for example all the FD variants, like for example the Fdn and Breechlock 20mm F2.8 as an instance. We will undertake the work on the understanding that no liability will be accepted on our behalf for this development work, and the work will be undertaken on a one of basis and estimated accordingly, currently development time is charged at £189 per hour. There may be some differing optical or body characteristics that we may not always be able to eradicate / change in this style of development  work. As such no guarantees of 100% accuracy can be given in the lens performance. No liability will be accepted for any fault’s / inaccuracies of any description in development works of this nature including machining, or any incompatibility issues on rebuilding a new mounting system or amendment of a new mounting system or duplication of a mount system.

Some lenses and optical equipment may suffer from various's forms of Fungus belonging to groups Phycomycetes, Ascomycte and Fungi Imperfecti, (Fungus). If your equipment is in for servicing and repairs of this condition listed in our Lens Repair Estimate, we have special notifications relative to the existence of fungus which you should read below.

Fungus is a live organism that grows inside equipment and continues emitting spores until it is killed off , we will endeavour to remove all of the infestation, but by the actual condition some of the spores and Tendrils that grow from the initial body of the fungus spread, because it requires “food” it will in some cases, not all, eat (Etch) into the lens element coatings, this invariably leaves marks on the damaged element coating, which can only be restored by element replacement. It is impossible to tell from external viewing if at all the glass elements have been etched and damaged, this can only be confirmed once the elements have been removed from the equipment. As some optical equipment we deal with is quite old, replacement elements and parts are not available, we will carry out repairs to remove every trace of fungus, and kill off all infestation, but if coatings are damaged and parts are not available we will not be held responsible or liable for the damage that has been caused by Fungus Infestations.

If the original invoice is not paid within 10 working days, we will apply interest at 5% (daily incremental of outstanding balance) above Bank base rate.

All invoices are due on completion of work and will be sent  to original e-mail or address provided when the work has been accepted by the Lens Doctor. No credit terms are available and payment will be expected on receipt of invoice.

If the invoice fails to be paid within 30 days of original invoice, and without reasonable explanation, The Lens Doctor reserves the right to sell the repaired equipment, and Deed of Title will pass to The Lens Doctor to redeem cost of repairs and parts that have been purchased and installed in the equipment . The customer is entitled to any proceeds left over once we recover any amount owed by the Customer plus our expenses in this process.

The Lens Doctor will assist the customer in the presentation of any necessary claims. Loss or damage in transit shall not, however, relieve the customer of their obligation to pay The Lens Doctor the full amount due according to the terms shown here and on the invoice.  Shipping costs are not covered as part of our guarantee, even if the customer paid similar shipping costs as part of the initial repair or order. All shipping or other transportation costs required to transport the goods to and from the facility of The Lens Doctor for additional repairs under our guarantee are the responsibility of the customer.
